Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) MP and Actor Hema Malini secured a decisive victory over Congress candidate Mukesh Dhanger in the 2024 Lok Sabha election for the Mathura constituency in Uttar Pradesh. The constituency went to polls on the second phase of the seven-phased election, according to the Election Commission of India (ECI) website.
Meanwhile, Malini's daughter and actor, Esha Deol, congratulated her mother on her victory by posting a picture of her on Instagram. Deol shared a photo of Hema Malini on Instagram, captioning it with, "Congratulations mamma (heart and smiley face emoticons) Hat trick."
Hema Malini Leads By Huge Margin From Mathura

Speaking to the media, the actor-turned-politician, who is likewise nervous as the counting begins, stated, "It's an extremely exciting time right now, and I'm sure that our party will emerge and we will undoubtedly form the government. Mathura is also providing me with a very good lead. Right now, everything is going really well. I believe that everything will be clear by 1:00 pm."
Mathura, also known as Krishna Janbhoomi, is a historic city and one of the BJP's strongholds. Since 1990, there have been eight Lok Sabha elections, of which the BJP has won all but two. If Hema Malini wins, she will have won three times from this seat.
Hema Malini's Political Journey
Hema Malini emerged victorious in 2019 with nearly twice as many votes as RLD's Narendra Singh, who came in a distant second. Hema Malini started her political career in 1999. She is a trained Bharatnatyam dancer and was awarded the Padma Shri in 2000. She participated in the election campaign of fellow actor Vinod Khanna, a BJP contender for Punjab's Gurdaspur Lok Sabha seat.
President APJ Abdul Kalam nominated Malini to the Rajya Sabha in 2003 for a six-year term, and she formally joined the BJP in 2004. On the suggestion of party general secretary HN Ananth Kumar, she was reappointed to the Rajya Sabha in 2011 after being appointed BJP general secretary in 2010.
Hema Malini defeated RLD leader Jayant Chaudhary in the Mathura constituency of the 2014 Lok Sabha elections by a margin of 22.65%. She maintained her seat in 2019 with 60.88% of the vote against 34.26% for her opponent, RLD's Kunwar Narendra Singh.
For Lok Sabha 2024, her constituency held a second phase vote on April 26, 2024 with a turnout of 49.29%.
