At the beginning of this month, this celebrated film had also won the third annual Audience Award at the Glasgow Film Festival 2017.
While the film received laurels worldwide, India’s Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on February 23 refused to certify this film because of some baseless reasons. They censored it, claiming to be too ‘lady-oriented’ film and that it could spoil youngsters and the female sex! This women-centric film rebels against the stereotypes, winning love from across the globe.
Prakash Jha’s ’Lipstick Under My Burkha’ follows the story of four women, who live in small town Bhopal and challenge boundaries of reinforced patriarchy. The film explores aspects of femininity which are often hidden. Shrivastava’s film stars Konkona Sen Sharma, Ratna Pathak Shah, Aahana Kumra and Plabitha Borthakur.

The movie premiered at the international forum last year. On the occasion, Konkana said, “It is truly an honour to have our film premiere at the Tokyo International Film Festival. I’m particularly excited because it is in a competitive section at such a prestigious festival.”
Shah added, “I am thrilled to be a part of this brave film that explores desire in the context of a changing India,” reported International Business Times.
Congratulations to filmmaker Alankrita Shrivastava, all the ladies and the entire crew who are behind its tremendously eye-opening content that has broken through several stereotypes at a time!
