Footballer Lionel Messi got married to childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo in his Argentina hometown. The wedding has created waves, and is being called the “wedding of the century.” The wedding was attended by over 260 guests and was a star studded affair.
He and Antonella have been childhood sweethearts and have two children together. She is the cousin of his childhood friend Lucas Scaglia. She studied social communication and has launched her own brand of footwear.
The couple who have known each other for 25 years banned mobile phones at the ceremony. They also had 450 police officers present as security.
The guest list included his teammates Luis Suárez, Neymar, Gerard Piqué and his wife, Colombia's pop star Shakira. A number of guests flew into Rosario on private jets.
The pair knew each other in Argentina, and stayed in touch even after Messi left to move to Spain when he was a teenager. They started their relationship when Messi went to visit his hometown after one of Roccuzzo’s close friends passed away in a traffic accident.
Messi moved to Barcelona when he was 13 after being diagnosed with a hormone disorder that affected his growth, and was offered treatment for the disorder there.
