A 16-year-old girl, Eliza Wasni has been charged with the murder of an Uber Driver. Grant Nelson the 34-year-old Uber driver, picked her up in a silver Hyundai Sonata at around 3 am on Tuesday night, in the Chicago suburb of Lincolnwood, shortly after which the girl began stabbing him from the back seat, said prosecutors of the case at a news conference.
Nelson managed to pull over, and run away. The girl took over the car, but had to flee on foot after banging the car into a median.
When the police arrived, they found Nelson in a pool of blood. He was able to tell the police what happened, but did not survive the night. He passed away in the hospital. The police were able to find the girl using the driver’s Uber app. She was found holding a machete and a knife, and refused to let go of the weapons. The police had to taser her to get her into custody.
The girl has been charged as an adult for first-degree murder. The girl had stolen the weapons from a Walmart, according to the Chicago Sun-Times. No reason was given for the attack. She had taken two other Uber rides on the same night.
"We are heartbroken by the loss of one of our partners," Uber said in a statement. "Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with his family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time."
The teen who lives with a single mother, was in violation of Uber's terms and conditions, according to which customers must be 18 and above.
