COVID-19 Relief Fund: Go Campaign ambassadors Lily Collins, Robert Pattinson, and Ewan McGregor announced the COVID-19 relief fund for India.
The COVID-19 relief fund will provide Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), oximeters, daily health checks, access to vaccinations, medicine, manual resuscitators, etc. Ambassador Lily Collins urged that people to donate as she said, “India is facing a devastating second wave of COVID-19 and their healthcare system does not have enough resources to care for everybody.” Collins added that “They are in dire need of protective equipment, oxygen, medicine and food to save lives.”
Robert Pattinson described the organisation as a “really meaningful investment fund”. Ewan McGregor spoke about the COVID-19 relief fund and said that “As COVID rages through India, Go Campaign needs your help to provide PPE, emergency food, medicine, pulse oximeter, and resuscitators to those who need it.” The organisation set the goal of raising 250,000 dollars within the next two weeks.
Go Campaign founder and CEO Scott Fifer said that “We are fortunate in that we are in a position to cut out the red tape often associated with many aid organizations and bring fast and immediate relief to families in India who are fearing for their lives.”
Go Campaign was established in 2006 and the official ambassadors are Lily Collins, Robert Pattinson, and Ewan McGregor. The organisation raises awareness and funds and focuses on helping vulnerable children and orphans. It supports grassroots organisations and provides people with medical care, basic human rights, and enrichment programs.
Collins became the first female ambassador of the organisation in 2018. Over the years, Go Campaign has partnered with organisations such as Dharavi Diary, Red Brigade, and Bal Ashram Trust to provide India with support.
On May 7, India reported the largest daily spike of new COVID-19 cases in India. Currently, 3.5 million people are being treated for COVID-19. The increase in daily cases has led to a shortage in hospital beds and oxygen.
