Lily Allen Says She Is 'So Happy' Meghan Markle 'Escaped' The UK

On February 14, 2021, the Meghan Markle and Prince Harry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex announced that they were expecting a second child. A spokesperson for the couple said that, “We can confirm that Archie is going to be a big brother.” The couple also shared a black and white image of themselves under a tree that highlights Markle’s baby bump. Their newest addition will become eighth in line to the British throne, one step down from Archie.

Most people celebrated the news and shared their heartfelt congratulations, while critics like talk show presenter Piers Morgan accused the couple of ignoring their wish to step down from the royal family and be left alone by the press. Morgan, who is known for being divisive tweeted this following the next day -

That day itself, the singer and songwriter Lily Allen proceeded to state her view on the backlash on Twitter. Allen praised them and stated that she is ‘so happy’ that the couple ‘escaped’ the United Kingdom.

ugh the British media/establishment is so angry with Meghan for showing the world how irrelevant and unnecessary they are. They will stop at nothing to try and destroy her. I’m so happy for them that they escaped.

Allen defended their announcement by stating that, “There will have been a bounty out to get that first picture of the bump, and by putting out their own picture and getting ahead of the story they reduce the risk of putting her in physical danger.”
