With each passing day, murkier details are surfacing in the rape case against former BJP MP Chinmayanand. After the law student from Shahjahanpur submitted 43 video clips as evidence against the politician to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of UP Police, her father called the video leak on the Internet a 'conspiracy'. He said on Sunday that the video footage that his daughter gave to SIT that has now been leaked is a conspiracy and that he would urge the Supreme Court to order a probe into it.
“From where have the screenshots and videos come to social media? The screenshots have been posted even on various social media platforms. These were given to the SIT by my daughter. This is a conspiracy,” he said, News 18 reported.
Key Takeaways:
- Law student's father alleges how his daughter's video has been leaked on social media is a conspiracy. He said he would urge the Supreme Court to order a probe into it.
- On Sunday, SIT questioned three of the survivor's male friends, two principals of colleges where she studied undergraduate and master's course and some other college staff members.
- The girl said that apart from her, a girl of undergraduate course and a male teacher were also called routinely by Chinmayanand for massages.
- She hopes to ensure that no other girl or boy has to ever succumb to the massages Chinmayanand allegedly forced people to do.
“They are free to make all the allegations they want against me, but I have evidence… Meri to zindagi barbaad kar di (My life has been destroyed), I am doing this at the cost of my name, but I just want to ensure that the life of no other girl or boy is destroyed… Maalish to yeh karwana bhool jayega (He will never target anyone else),”
After the SIT examined the survivor and Chinmayanand, it also questioned three male friends of the survivor, apart from some employees of her college. The male friends included the person, she ran away to Rajasthan with after posting the video raising alarm over the harassment and rape case against the former minister on August 24. He and two other male friends, who were examined by the SIT, are the ones who were sitting in the car with the survivor when she made the video narrating her ordeal to post on social media.
Other than these people the SIT also questioned the principals of the college she did her under-graduation from and the college where she joined the master's course in law when the alleged crime began to happen and continued over a period of one year. The SIT also summoned two college staff who failed to turn up to record their statement.
The law student was studying in the second year of her college when she decided to share a video in which she alleged that she has been harassed by “big leader of the saint society, who has destroyed the lives of several girls” she said in the video that she posted on her Facebook account on August 23. She hadn't named Chinmayanand in her complaint at that time but after she went missing a day later, her father filed a written complaint in which he mentioned that Chinmayanand had sexually assaulted his daughter.
The survivor, who was found in Rajasthan a week after she went missing by the Delhi Police on Supreme Court's order, then, filed a complaint with the Delhi Police alleging that Chinmayanand raped her over a period of one year. She claimed that he secretly filmed her while she was taking a bath and then blackmailed her of leaking the video to keep calling her to his residence inside the college campus to get massages from her and to rape her.
The girl recently spoke to The Sunday Express and revealed that she took several hidden videos of the times he called her for massages — around 35 incriminating videos in total. She said that she hopes to get justice with the help of these videos. However, she also alleged recently that the spectacle with the hidden camera and the chip has been stolen from his room.
Talking about how she procured the spectacles, she said, “After searching through pens, bracelets and pendants on the Internet with hidden cameras, I decided to go in for the spectacles. I was not allowed to take in mobile phones, and I thought if I wore the spectacles no one would suspect anything.”
She said that Chinmayanand and his men kept a keen eye on her so she doesn't talk to others in the college. Apart from her, she said that an undergraduate student and a male teacher were also called by Chinmayanand for the massage every now and then.
She spoke about how Chinmayanand blackmailed her for a year with that video that he took from a hidden camera while she took a bath. “It was there that the first video of mine was made, I do not know how, while I was taking a bath, in October last year. I was then blackmailed to visit Chinmayanand at his residence, where I was raped and another video of mine was made. With a threat to make these videos public, I was harassed for about a year until I decided that I had had enough,” she alleged.
“There would be men standing outside my room to take me and the entire college knew what was happening. No one would dare talk to me. I could not gather the courage to speak up. But then I decided to do something and that is when I started looking for hidden cameras,” she added saying that since they used a hidden camera to destroy her, she decided to do the same to expose him.

“I knew no one would register my FIR and everyone would doubt me. So, I uploaded my video talking about how my life and that of other girls were destroyed on Facebook, and kept moving from one state to another,” she said about the video in which she narrated the incident.

Chinmayanand, who is the former Minister of State Home in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government and a BJP leader, isn’t new to criminal cases. In November 2011, he was charged with rape after a girl who had lived at his Ashram for several years accused him of sexually assaulting her. However, the UP government recently tried to shield him when the Yogi Adityanath government in March this year wrote a letter to withdraw the case. But in May, a local court rejected the UP govt.’s plea.
