Ecuadorian influencer and social media star Landy Parraga Goyburo has been shot dead by two unnamed gunmen while at lunch with her friend. The 23-year-old influencer rose to fame after winning the fifth position in Miss Ecuador 2022. Landy's connection to the late drug lord Leandro Norrero is speculated to be behind her murder.
How Did Landy Parraga Goyburo Die?
Landy had posted a picture of herself enjoying 'octopus ceviche' on her social media, which is understood to have given the gunmen her location. Within minutes, the two men entered the restaurant, shooting several times at Landy. She and her friend were left defenceless, and Landy passed away on the spot from the relentless gunfire.
Netizens have taken to social media to speculate on her death, some believing that her affair with drug lord Leandro Norrerro must have a role in this. Leandro was known to shower expensive gifts on Landy after he started dating her during the Miss Ecuador 2022 pageant.
Specualtions arise that the late drug lord's widow, Lina Romero, might have called the gunmen on her out of spite. Leandro Norrerro reportedly told his friend Helive Angulo once that "if my wife comes across anything about her, I'm screwed" and that Landy's name cannot come out anywhere, or his world would come crashing down. Leandro was killed in a prison uprising almost two years ago.
Landy has over a million followers and had previously refrained from talking about Leandro or her connections with him. She has taken part in several pageants and has modelled for sportswear lines.
The Safety Of Posting On Social Media
Landy's death has brought up questions about the safety of posting on social media. If it was this easy for two gunmen to find Landy's location from just her Instagram story, how compromised really are our lives, especially for those of us who are regulars when it comes to showcasing our lives on social media?
