A former employee of a leading IT consultancy company is on the radar for making a hoax bomb-threat call to the company's Bengaluru office. Reports state that the employee, who was laid off some time back, made the threats over a fit of rage and was also inebriated at the time.
The call sent a panic through the office and Bengaluru's Parappana Agrahara police were immediately called. The bomb disposal squad arrived and investigated the premises and gave the all-clear. The woman who made the hoax call was identified as a former employee from Belagavi.
In June this year, a whistleblower wrote to the CEO and COO of the company, saying that a "bribes-for-jobs" scam was going on, following which 19 employees, including 3 people from the resource management team were let go last month. The company added, that six vendors, their owners and affiliates were banned from doing any business with them in future.
In another case, this week, IT workers union have filed a complaint against the same IT company for allegedly forcefully transferring employees.
Labour Ministry Receives Complaint Against Same Company
The Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES), an IT sector employee rights organisation, has reportedly filed a complaint this week with the Ministry of Labour and Employment against the same IT consultancy company, alleging it is transferring over 2,000 employees without prior consultation.
The NITES alleged that the company sends emails stating that the transfers are necessary due to "business requirements," with no other specific details. They added that most of the affected employees are in the 1-2 year experience category, with a large section of them coming from the Hyderabad region. But the company is allegedly transferring them to locations far from home, with no prior notice or proper details.
The NITES claimed that the affected employees are required to relocate within 14 days or stand to have their salaries deducted. They urged the labour ministry to investigate the company's transfer practices to determine if they violate labour laws, and take requisite actions.
The company is a well-known IT giant and has over 6 lakh employees across the country.
