Stalker sets woman on fire: A man poured petrol over himself and a 22-year-old woman, with whom he was friends and hugged her and immolated in front of the panchayat office at Thikkodi in Kozhikode, Kerala. The woman died immediately while the man has been admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital for treatment.
The incident took place on December 17, yesterday, when the woman was going to work at the panchayat office. She was approached by the man, who knew her. The accused then allegedly stabbed the deceased with a pair of scissors and then poured petrol over both of them and lit the fire.
The locals, who witnessed the incident at 10 AM, said that the flames were high and it took them some time to rescue the two people. Both were then taken to a hospital in Koyilandy and then shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, where the girl died of 95 percent burn.
The Payyoli police station has registered a case against the accused under sections 302 (murder), 307 (attempt to murder) and 326 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by dangerous weapon) of the Indian Penal Code and an investigation is underway.

According to the family member of the accused, the duo was in a relationship and was facing some issues. The neighbour of the accused claimed that he had met the woman's family with a marriage proposal and they had asked for some more time to think.
The accused is a 26-year-old daily labourer named Nandhu Mohanan. The woman, Krishnapriya Manoj, was a temporary employee at the panchayat office. According to the Panchayat President Jameela Samad, the two were friends and locals. While the man resided in Thrikkottur South, the deceased woman was from Paloor West area.
The Payyoli SHO KC Subhash Babu said that the woman suffered 95 percent burn and the man 90 percent. The police reached the location at 10:25 AM and contained the fire. "Fire and rescue personnel from Koyilandy station also arrived by that time. More details about the motive of the crime should be revealed after recording the statements of their friends and relatives," he said.
