The very versatile Konkona Sen Sharma has proven her mettle from time to time. And, now the Bollywood actress and director has been awarded as the best director for her directorial debut ‘A Death In The Gunj’ and the best actress for ‘Lipstick Under My Burkha’ at 2017's New York Indian Film Festival (NYIFF).
The 37-year-old Konkona’s directorial venture was a drama thriller with a stellar cast, including actors Kalki Koechlin, Vikrant Massey, Jim Sarbh and Tanuja. The film also features one of the most powerhouse actors, the late Om Puri, who gave his last performance in the film and passed away in January this year.
The industry is also celebrating Konkona’s success for receiving the top honour for her performance in Alankrita Shrivastava's "Lipstick Under My Burkha", an eye-opening film which explores the freedom of women's sexuality.
Not an ordinary film, "Lipstick Under My Burkha" had become a target for the censor board which tried hard to stop its “sexual content” from being played in India. Yet recently, the film tribunal has certified the film for Adults. But it seems the feminist content couldn’t be stopped from spreading its wings across the globe.

The director of the film, an ecstatic Alankrita Shrivastava, also congratulated Konkona for her win at the festival, and tweeted:

Konkona is a national awardee who was bestowed the honour twice. In 2003, she won the National Award for Best Actress for her role in Mr. and Mrs. Iyer and in 2008, she won an award for Omkara.
Alongside Konkona, K Kaladharan won the best actor for Malayalam film "Ottayaal n Paatha" ("A Narrow Path") while Shubhashish Bhutiani's "Mukti Bhawan" was announced the best film at the 17th annual film extravaganza. "An Insignificant Man" won the best documentary and Malayalam film "Kammatipaddam" the best screenplay. Onir's film "Aaba" was declared the best short film at the festival.
The Indo-American Arts Council presents the film festival, which this year was held from April 30 to May 7.
