A woman was murdered in a hotel room at New Town in the outskirts of Kolkata on Tuesday evening, the police said. The woman is said to be in her early twenties.
A handwritten note in Bengali was also found by the victim’s body which read, “I did not want to kill you but had no option.” The police collected a broken bottle of alcohol at the crime scene.
Reportedly, the hotel staff discovered the body and informed the police about it. The staff had accessed the room with a master key after there was no response coming from the room.

The deceased woman had checked in the hotel room with a man who had claimed to be her husband. The couple had entered the hotel premises at around 1 pm in the afternoon and had told the hotel staff that they will check out at 7 pm. The security footage retrieved from the hotel showed the man leaving at 4 pm.
In the hotel records, the couple had claimed to be residents of West Midnapore district. The Technocity officers have refused to give any further comments as the investigation is going on.
A similar incident was reported from Chandigarh in January this year when a 20-year-old woman was found dead in a hotel room. She had also checked in the hotel with a man who had left the hotel after a few hours. The man was later convicted of murder as the police found out that he had stabbed the woman.
