Kolkata Woman Lives With Dead Daughter
A Jadavpur Police team arrived at a residential building and subsequently broke down a door to investigate the foul odour. Upon entry, they discovered an elderly woman named Dipali Basu sitting next to the lifeless body of her daughter, Sanchita, on the bed.
The corpse was transported to the SSKM hospital for a post-mortem examination. Based on the initial investigation, it appears that the body had been deceased for four to five days.
According to the locals, Sanchita was believed to have a mental illness. Her father passed away five years ago, and since then, she and her mother resided in Bijoygarh. Investigation revealed that the pair did not have a source of income and relied on a relative for their meals.
According to a police official, a woman, and her mother, both afflicted with a mental illness, were living together. It was discovered that the mother never disclosed the death of her daughter to anyone. The police were alerted to the situation by concerned neighbours after a food delivery person raised concerns about the unpleasant odour emanating from their apartment.
The police stated that the precise reason for the death will become apparent after they obtain the post-mortem report. Currently, the investigation is in progress.
This incident bears resemblance to the Robinson Street matter, where Partha De, a software engineer, resided for six months with the remains of his sister, Debjani De, and two pet dogs. The case was discovered by the police during their investigation into the passing of his father, Arabinda De, who had set himself on fire on 10 June, 2015.
