According to reports, the incident came to light after a strong foul smell began emanating from their house in the Bagbazar area following which the neighbours alerted the police. The police conducted a search late on Tuesday night to discover two women living with the decomposed corpse of the 78-year-old.
"The man must have died at least a month-and-half ago," Shyampukur police station officer said, "The body has been fully decomposed, exposing the skeleton."
He added that the cause of the death is still not clear and will be confirmed only after a post-mortem examination. For now, they are questioning the wife and the daughter and also trying to find out whether the two women were depressed.
The daughter was reported to be married but not living with her husband, instead, she was leading a normal life with her mother and deceased father in the resident. Even on the day of the search, the police found out that the duo was casually having food and doing all daily chores, unconcerned about the body lying on the bed in the same room.
Initially, they resisted the police's attempt to enter the house. Previously, the duo used to keep the doors and windows of the room shut, allowing nobody to enter it.
However, what has grabbed attention in the case is that the incident was reported from Robinson street, the same location which made headlines back in the year 2015 for a similar incident where a software engineer Partha De lived with the corpse of his dead sister Debjani De and two pet dogs for an unknown period of time.
