Are there people who still mock at you for studying something that doesn't involve anything "technical"? Well, that's quite a lopsided view of perceiving things. According to a report by CNBC, people with an arts degree exhibit skills like compelling communication, drive for results, and inspiring excellence which is pivotal to the success of any organisation.

Latika Wadhwa the founder of MaStyle Care shares,"I wanted to break the stereotype revolving around Arts and so, I opted for a degree in English Honors from the prestigious Delhi University which was like a dream come true. I'm happy that I excelled the course in a great manner and became one of the toppers of the college." She further added that reading novels and getting acquainted with the societal issues plaguing our country helped her become a successful social entrepreneur.

"The society tends to outcast people opting for Arts, as creativity and passion are secondary and can't provide you with your daily bread. But is life all about sustaining and not actually living​? I wanted to evolve as a human being."-Nikita Kumar

It has been proved by researchers that people with a humanities degree become better leaders because of their abilities to connect with people in an effective way. "Arts helped me understand the power of communication within a society which is most important in today's corporate world.  It enlightened me with the dichotomy of relationships, helped me break the glass ceilings at various occasions and motivated me with my decisions," reiterates Latika.

Latika Wadhwa isn't the only one reaping the benefits of an Arts degree. Nikita Kumar, pursuing her Masters in Political Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University calls herself fortunate to have taken the right decision of studying Arts.

"Arts made me compassionate, determined and free of insecurities​. Today, I feel much more connected to myself. Humanities has definitely contributed in making me a better human. I can proudly say that my first ever big decision about my life wasn't disappointing at all, and has helped me to get a deeper and a comprehensive understanding of life, which according to me is much more important than grasping​ logic," she shares without undermining the importance other streams hold in helping the society advance.

"It was not easy to convince people around," she confesses. "The society tends to outcast people opting for the Arts as creativity and passion are secondary and can't provide you with your daily bread. But is life all about sustaining and not actually living​?  I wanted to evolve as a human being."

"Had I not opted for the Arts, I would have never been able to spot misogynists, sexists and racists who were there around me," chuckles Rashi Goel recalling one of the benefits of studying Arts. She calls her decision to be the first monumental step she took that defied social norms.

"Arts, in this respect, turned my world upside down. From basic human rights to tracing back common roots, from crimes against humanity to wars fought for equality, I understood the importance of basic rights such as equality, freedom and justice. I realised how these values are essential part not only in one's growth, but how they form one's identity," she elaborated.

Amrita Paul, who completed her MA in Creative Writing from Newcastle University, feels that an arts degree teaches you to empathise and allow multiple opinions and narratives to exist alongside yours."There is great power in our own stories and in the tangent they take and where they lead us - and an arts degree definitely helps one harness that to their fullest potential."
