Kim Yo Jong promoted: Kim Jong Un's sister, Kim Yo Jong has secured a position in the country’s State Affairs Commission. She is a key adviser to her brother. Her promotion to the post was approved by the Supreme People's Assembly.
It was reported that about nine members were dismissed from the commission. One of the dismissed members was Diplomat Choe Son Hui, a rare senior woman in the hierarchy of North Korean politics. Diplomat Choe Son Hui was a crucial figure in North Korea’s negotiations with the United States.
The official newspaper of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea announced the eight newly elected post holders on Thursday. Kim Yo Jong was noted to be the only woman on the list.
Educated in Switzerland alongside her brother, Kim Yo Jong has always been a part of her nation’s politics. She has accompanied her brother to his summits with the former President of the United States Donald Trump as well as the President of South Korea Moon Jae-in. Kim Yo Jong is believed to have played a key role in the US-North Korea Summit.
In the past, she has often made acrimonious statements in the State Media with regards to Washington and Seoul. Earlier she held the position of a vice department director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party.
It has been noted that in specific cases, Kim Yo Jong stated that her statements were made in a personal capacity.
Amid rumours about Kim Jong Un's death, his sister Kim Yo Jong was believed to be the most suitable successor to the regime. Although, if appointed, Kim Yo Jong will be the first-ever female leader of a socially conservative nation like North Korea.
Kim Yo Jong’s official rank has fluctuated in the past where it has risen as well as fell. Her new position at the State Affairs Commission is by far the highest post she has held.
