The police have now recovered two Goa-based minor girls from Karnataka after they were reportedly lured and kidnapped on the promise of a rich lifestyle.
The minor girls were discovered in a house in the southern state, where they were kept trapped. The girls are aged 12 and 15 respectively.
Kidnapped Goan Girls Rescued
The girls were abducted from two different villages in North Goa, according to police, and on May 29 a missing persons FIR was also filed by the concerned families. Deputy Superintendent of Police Jivba Dalvi told reporters that the underage girls were rescued by a squad of police from Colvale in North Goa with the assistance of their counterparts from Hubballi.
On May 29, the father of one of the minor girls approached authorities to report that his underaged 12-year-old daughter had been kidnapped. He stated that the mother of another minor girl in the district also filed a similar report about her missing 15-year-old daughter the same day.
He proclaimed that two cases were filed in this regard under Indian Penal Code (IPC) section 363 (kidnapping). Dalvi said it was discovered during the inquiry that the girls had been brought to Hubballi in nearby Karnataka. As a result, a police squad was dispatched to locate the minor victims. They were helped by their colleagues at the Kasba Peth police station in Hubballi.
The accused tempted both victims with the promise of a wealthy lifestyle. The females even brought gold from their families, which the accused sold to goldsmiths. He said that all of the gold was retrieved from Hubballi's goldsmiths.
While the police were searching, informants told them that the two girls were being held in the home of one Naveed Ahmad Paniband in Tippunagar, Hubballi-Dharwad, Karnataka, he added. As a result, the police arrived at Paniband's home and searched it. The two girls were discovered trapped inside his home. During his interrogation, Paniband told the police that his acquaintance Tousif Killedar from Dharwad had brought the youngsters to his residence. Killedar was detained in the same neighbourhood based on the information. During his interrogation, the latter admitted to his involvement in the crime, according to Dalvi.
The rising cases of women's kidnapping have been on the rise in the southern states of India across age groups. Recent cases of young girls and women being lured for a better life have certainly raised an alarm indicating several cases and racquets like this one.
