Khushbu Sundar, the actor-turned-politician who joined BJP earlier this month, was detained by the Tamil Nadu police on Tuesday morning in Chengalpattu district. She was on her way to Chidambaram to protest against VCK (Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi) leader and Lok Sabha MP Thol. Thirumavalvan’s alleged derogatory remarks on women while citing the ancient Hindu text Manusmriti.
Sundar was heading to Cuddalore district to lead a protest staged by BJP’s women’s wing. However, she was detained by the police as the permission for the protest had been denied. She took to Twitter to question the AIADMK government in Tamil Nadu, saying that they have been “denied of our democratic right for a peaceful protest”. She even accused the state government of being ‘partial’.
“When your journey is cut short by force, you know you are on the right track," said Khushbu Sundar in her Tweet earlier this morning.
When your journey is cut short by force, you know you are on right track. I question @AIADMKOfficial n #CM of TN @EPSTamilNadu avl, why we are denied of our democratic right for a peaceful protest when other parties are given the permission to do the same? Why this partiality?

Sundar has been retweeting the posts which condemn her detainment. In her latest tweet, she wrote that history is witness to “who is famous for riots and goondiasm (hooliganism)”. She further added, “If its Constitution written by Ambedkar is what you follow, then why bring what was written 3500yrs back?”
History is there for the people of TN to see as to who is famous for riots n goondaism. #VCK should speak what party has done, has been doing n will cont. to do to polarize. If its Constitution written by Ambedkar is what you follow, then why bring what was written 3500yrs back?

Thol. Thirumavalavan's remarks on Manusmriti lead to outrage
A row had erupted in Tamil Nadu when Thirumavalavan, while addressing a group, claimed that Manusmriti demeans women. "Manusmriti has made a bad structure in our society in which women are the main focus. In the name of purity, women were made slaves and their character assassination was done," said the leader, as per a report by Hindustan Times. A video went viral on Twitter on October 23, 2020 about the same.
Sundar, while addressing the media at the Chennai party headquarters, criticised Thirumavalavan. She said, "What was the necessity for Mr Thirumavalavan to speak or even refer to this book which was written in the 17th century? Now when the elections are coming up... it is absolutely irrelevant..." reported NDTV.
BJP had demanded an apology from Thirumavalavan regarding the remark. The party pointed out that it could trigger a communal clash.
However, Thirumavalavan has been denying the allegations. He said that he was only quoting Manusmriti, and did not intend to speak ill about women. “BJP has been spreading fake news using a speech I delivered a month ago to trigger clashes,” he commented.
