The Indian Express reports that Khushbu Sundar was on her way to attend Vel Yatra, which is being held by Bhartiya Janata Party despite being banned by the state government. Vel Yatra is a month long rally involving visits to six abodes of Lord Muruga. This year the state government had denied permission for the yatra due to COVID-19 pandemic.
The accident took place at Ayyanarkoil on the Chennai – Trichy National Highway around 9.30am, reports TOI. While Sundar left the accident sight in another vehicle, the driver of the container was detained by Mathuranthagam police.
After social media users expressed concerns over her well-being, the actor-turned-politician again took to social media to assure everyone that she was safe. "Nothing has stopped me before this, nothing will stop me now either." she wrote on Twitter.
Thank you so much for all the inquiries n good wishes. I feel indebted. I am safe n continuing my journey towards Cuddalore. Nothing has stopped me before this, nothing will stop me now either. Zindagi har kadam ek nayi Jung hai. Jeet jaayenge hum tu agar sang hai #VelYaatrai

In October this year Sundar resigned from the Congress party alleging that she was being pushed and suppressed. “After a long thorough thought process over a period of time, have decided to end my association with the party,” she wrote in a resignation letter to Sonia Gandhi. Following her resignation, she joined BJP. "If the nation has to move forward, then we need somebody like Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take the country in the right direction,” she told reporters from a welcoming ceremony in the party, held in Delhi.
