Kerala Woman Arrested For Practising Black Magic Rituals Using Children

Days after the horrific case of two women being murdered in “human sacrifices” was uncovered, a woman from the same district was arrested for allegedly practising occult rituals using children.

Deputy Superintendent of Police in Pathanamthitta, S Nandakumar confirmed that the accused woman was arrested on Thursday, October 13. The woman, identified as Shobhana alias Vasanti from Kerala’s Pathanamthitta was seen in a video.

The video allegedly showed the 41-year-old woman performing rituals with the children seated in front of her was circulated online, following which locals protested outside her residence.

The accused and her friend, identified as Unnikrishnan were taken into custody by the police. She was arrested for allegedly performing occult rituals in which children were forced to participate.

After the human sacrifice incident of Elanthoor, where three people were arrested for allegedly killing two women as part of occult ritual practices, activists and locals staged a protest. In the human sacrifice case, two lottery ticket sellers who went missing were found murdered and buried on a couple's property.

Activists including members of the Democratic Youth Federation of India (DFYI) took part in the protest against the alleged black magic practices.

A police source told Press Trust of India (PTI) that the video which went viral on social media was said to be an old one. The source said, “We will examine it. Anyway, they are under custody now. We are taking them for medical examination now”.

A police official told reporters that there were several allegations against the woman. The official said that a team led by the Deputy Superintendent of Police would probe the matter. The police official added, “Besides the charges of black magic practices, several nuisance complaints were also there against them”.

Kerala's Health and Family Welfare Minister Veena George said the government was viewing the situation with the utmost seriousness. She said that "stringent action" would be taken against people who used "children for such activities". George added, "The society should stand united against such practices". She also stated that public awareness must be increased against such incidents.
