Kerala Human Rights Commission Calls For Police Action Against Vijay P Nair & Bhagyalakshmi

The SHRC directed Thiruvananthapuram police to act after it received a complaint from human rights activist Raneesh Kakkadavath regarding the matter.

The Kerala Human Rights Commission (SHRC) ordered police officials to initiate criminal proceedings against YouTuber Vijay P Nair for his derogatory remarks against women on Wednesday. Additionally, the SHRC called for action against the three women – Bhagyalakshmi, Diya Sana and Sreelakshmi Arackal – who allegedly attacked the YouTuber for his offensive comments.

SHRC Condemns Both Parties

As per the New Indian Express, the SHRC directed Thiruvananthapuram police to act after it received a complaint from human rights activist Raneesh Kakkadavath regarding the matter. Commission's judicial member P Mohandas told Police Commissioner Balram Kumar Upadhyay to initiate action against both the parties involved in the incident. The SHRC condemned Nair’s remarks but also observed that the general public cannot be allowed to take the law into their own hands.

Furthermore, the Kerala Human Rights Commission directed the police officials to submit a report on the steps taken regarding within the next two weeks.

YouTuber Offends Kerala Feminists

Earlier this week, Thiruvananthapuram resident YouTuber Vijay P. Nair uploaded a video titled “Why do feminists in India, especially Kerala, not wear underwear?” on his YouTube channel, “Vitrix Scene.” Consequently, on September 26, a group of three enraged women - Malayalam dubbing artist Bhagyalakshmi, Big Boss contestant Sreelakshmi Arackal and trans activist Diya Sana – went to Nair’s house and slapped him for uploading the video. They even smeared black ink on the man’s face and showcased it on Facebook live. As per the video, the trio forced Nair to apologise to them and even confiscated his electronic gadgets.

Currently, Vijay P Nair is in judicial custody. YouTube also took down the video in question after the state government requested it to do so. Meanwhile, the police registered cases under sections 323 (Punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (Punishment for criminal intimidation), 452 (House-trespass after preparation for hurt, assault or wrongful restraint) and 392 (Punishment for robbery) against Bhagyalakshmi, Sana, and Arackal. However, a sessions court granted the three anticipatory bail on Tuesday.
