Kerala HC Asks For Report On Olympian Mayookha Johny's Friend's Rape Case

Mayookha Johny Friend Rape Case: Kerala High Court on Monday directed the crime branch officials to submit a report in connection with the investigation of an alleged rape case highlighted by Mayookha Johny.

The ruling was given by Justice Shircy V after the survivor's lawyer claimed in court that the investigation of the case has been at a standstill. As per the lawyer and Mayookha Johny, the woman in question was allegedly raped by a man who also took her nude pictures and blackmailed her for them.

The public prosecutor in their rebuttal told the court that the case was recently handed over to the Crime Branch by the state police chief. As per the public prosecutor, the case was given to Crime Branch on July 5 and they started the investigation on July 8.

So far, the statements of the survivor, her mother the doctor, who examined the woman after the 2016 incident, have been taken by the police. A special team for the investigation of the case has been constituted on July 18 and mobile phones related to the crime have been seized, as per the public prosecutor.

The High Court directed the public prosecutor should include all these developments in the report. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled for July 30.

The case in question was first reported in 2016 when the survivor was allegedly raped. In June this year, Mayookha Johny had conducted a press conference in which she mentioned the alleged sexual assault of her friend and alleged the Kerala police of inaction.

She also accused former Kerala Women's Commission Chief MC Josephine of siding with the accused person. Johny alleged that her friend was threatened after reporting the case to the police. She claimed that the Kerala police earlier promised action against the accused but later stepped back after certain influential people were involved in the case.
