At the age of 64, former Kerala women's cricket team captain Shabina Jacob passed away in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday. She served as the state women's selection committee's chairperson for the last five years. In fact, she was one of the advocates of women's cricket in Kerala for decades.

She was an advocate of women's cricket team in Kerala for decades. And was the secretary of the Kerala State Women’s Cricket Association affiliated to the sports council before it came under the supervision of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA).

Always smiling, she brought a lot of interest and enthusiasm for women’s cricket in the state. I would say Kerala women’s cricket has lost a mother-like figure,” Robin Menon who was also the former coach of Kerala women’s cricket team, told Times of India. “She was a mentor to many talented players from Kerala and always encourages them to practice and get better,” said Menon.

“It’s very sad news. I have so many fond memories of her,” said former coach of Kerala women’s cricket team Suman Sharma. “She was like a mother to the women cricketers. She used to travel with the women’s teams and encourage the girls no matter what. On days when the teams performed badly, she would come and say nice words to lift the morale of the players. She was so passionate about cricket and it’s a huge loss for Kerala cricket,” said Suman who is with the Indian team for the Emerging Women’s Asia Cup in Sri Lanka.

She represented the Kerala cricket team from 1977 to 1981. Along with this, she also represented the Kerala University team for three years.

Advocate Of Women's Cricket In Kerala

She was also an advocate of women's cricket team in Kerala for decades. She was the secretary of the Kerala State Women’s Cricket Association affiliated to the sports council before it came under the supervision of the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA). She retired from the post of manager from the State Bank of Travancore. Her funeral was performed in Kottayam on Thursday. She is survived by her two sons.
