Kerala college murder: A man killed his female college peer in broad daylight on their campus in Pala, Kerala, reports said Friday. The 21-year-old accused was taken into police custody soon after the crime. He allegedly ended the woman's life after she rejected his advances.
Identified as Nithinamol, the 22-year-old hailed from Thalayolaparambu in Vaikom. She was a student of St Thomas college in Kottayam and had just finished her final year exams, as per Manorama. She was reportedly walking from the exam hall with Abhishek, the accused, when an argument ensued between them.
Reports suggest Abhishek murdered her with a sharp pen. Nithinamol succumbed to her injuries on the way to hospital.

Eyewitness accounts quoted in reports say Abhishek, after killing Nithinamol, appeared "unperturbed." Although certain reports claim the murder occurred over spurned love, police are yet to ascertain a motive, according to New Indian Express. Officials of the Pala police team are out camping on the premises of St Thomas.
In recent times, there have been numerous cases reported from Kerala wherein men harmed or harassed women for rejecting their proposals.
A woman in Malappuram was stabbed by her stalker in what was reportedly a planned assault in June this year. In another case from July, a 24-year-old woman in the Ernakulam district of Kerala was shot dead by a man who was allegedly keen on pursuing a relationship with her. As per reports, the accused later killed himself. Both were found lying in a pool of blood at the woman's house.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan in August this year addressed the issue in the state assembly saying that potential criminals, who had a record of harassing women who turned them away, would be kept track of and stringent punishment would be meted out to them.
