A grisly case of serial killings has surfaced in Kenya, where a man allegedly confessed to murdering at least 42 women, including his wife, in just two years. Collins Jumaisi Khalusha was arrested on July 15 after nine female bodies, some chopped up and thrown in sacks, were recovered from a quarry dumping site in Mukuru Kwa Njenga, Nairobi. However, the defence lawyers state that the 33-year-old was tortured into confessing to the crime.

Lawyer John Maina Ndegwa revealed that the suspect was a victim of police brutality and pleaded with the court to arrange urgent medical attention for him. “My client has been subjected to horrendous inhuman mistreatment so that he can confess to issues which are alien to him," the defence said.

Investigations On Alleged Murder Of 42 Women

Collins Jumaisi Khalusha has been arrested on accusations of luring and murdering dozens of women, including his own wife, before dumping their bodies in a quarry. This gruesome crime allegedly went on for two years until he was arrested on July 15 at around 3 am. from a club where he had gone to watch football.

Investigation officer Mohammed Amin revealed that the "serial killer" had confessed to all the murders and added that he used to throw the bodies at the dumping site. Police have found just nine bodies so far, some of which were badly rotten. Some bodies were also chopped into pieces and stuffed into sacks.

Suspect Tortured Into Confessing?

The police said that Khalusha was suspected after one of the victim's phones was recovered, through which they found that he transferred some money into his account. He also led officers to his house, where 10 phones, a laptop, identity cards and personal female clothing were found, according to police.

However, defence lawyer Ndegwa alleges that Khalusha was molested into confessing. Ndegwa also said that it was "laughable" to suggest that Khalusha had confessed by his own will. "He says he was strangled to confess. You could tell he was in distress, terrified and in anguish," Ndegwa told the BBC.

However, the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) refuted the allegations of abuse and asserted that only one officer was assigned to record the suspect’s statement. Khalusha could be detained for 30 days to conclude the investigation including DNA sampling and mental assessment, according to the DCI.
