Kerala actor assault case: Actor Kavya Madhavan appeared before the trial court in Ernakulam on Tuesday, August 10 in the case of sexual assault of a popular female actor.
The incident took place in Feb 2017 when the actor was abducted and assaulted sexually in a moving vehicle. Madhavan is the wife of actor Dileep, one of the suspects of the case. Dileep is accused to have hired people to kidnap and assault her. He allegedly wanted them to record visuals and hand them over to him.
Sunil Kumar is the prime accused in the case. In a statement, he said to the police that the memory card which contained pictures of the sexual assault was kept at the office of Laksyah. It is an online clothing firm Kavya Madhavan runs. The investigators had carried out a search at the office in Kochi in 2017 and also questioned Madhavan. Reportedly, Dileep was unhappy that the survivor had revealed his extra marital affair to Manju Warrier, his first wife. At that time, he was seeing Kavya Madhavan, who went on to become his second wife later.
More than 50 people from the Malayalam film industry are witnesses in the case. What gathered more attention to the case was actor influencer Dileep's alleged involvement.
Manju Warrier, Kunchako Boban, Samyukta Varma, singer Rimi Tomy gave their statements in the case in Dec 2017. This year in July, Vishnu, an accused turned approver was arrested as he failed to appear before the trial court.
In her statement to police, Warrier had said that she divorced Dileep in 2015 because of the extramarital relationship between him and Kavya. She had also confirmed that the survivor had disclosed the extra marital affair to her. Kavya Madhavan, in her statement said that she was not aware about the issues between Dileep and his first wife.
