Eyes full of determination and faces glistening with hope and hard work. Say cheers to two girls from Jammu and Kashmir -- Rabia Riyaz and Aabroo Bashir – who have qualified for the World Kickboxing Championships. The tournament will be held in Argentina in November this year.

Both Rabia and Aabroo, who hail from North Kashmir’s Bandipora district, were part of the team that clinched gold medals at the National Kickboxing Championships
The national tournament was held at the Patliputra Sports Complex in Patna, Bihar, from December 20 to 31, last year.

The feisty Jammu and Kashmir team brought home a total of 14 medals from the National Kickboxing Championships. These include three gold, five silver and six bronze.
Alongside Rabia and Aabroo, Hardik Chopra also won a gold medal. Chopra has also qualified for the International event, to be held in Argentina.
Kashmir a talent pool
The snowy hills of Kashmir have pools of talent indeed!
First, it was Kashmiri cricketer Jasia Akhtar who got selected for the Indian national women cricket camp. Then the Jammu and Kashmir Women’s Rugby Team rose to fame.
Also, who can forget the 8-year-old Kashmiri girl, Tajamul Islam? Tajamul had created history by winning the gold medal in the under-8 for India in the World Kick Boxing Championship held in Italy in November 2016.
