This comes after a video was allegedly put out by the woman on Saturday in which she asked for protection from the government. She also claimed that she attempted suicide.

She was heard saying, "I don’t know how and what they did with the video. I have already been stripped of my dignity everywhere. People from my area are coming home every day and questioning me and my parents. My parents tried to kill themselves twice. I, too, tried to kill myself three to four times."

She claimed that no one is helping her and she has no "political support". She accused Jarkiholi again saying that he "promised me a job and did everything and released the video." She added, " I don’t have any protection. All that I am asking for is my security."

SIT officials visited the woman in her hometown and questioned her family, relatives, neighbours and friends.

The State Women’s Commission chairperson R Pramila Naidu was quoted telling Indianexpress, "I have already directed and spoken to both city and state police chiefs for protection since then she has told in the video about the alleged threat to her life."

Naidu added that the commission is ready to provide protection to the woman if she approaches them.

Earlier, Ramesh Jarkiholi had filed a complaint against the said woman. The police then charged her for conspiracy and blackmailing acting Jarkiholi's complaint. Jarkiholi in his complaint called the videotape 'fake' and a tool to blackmail him. He wrote, "It is a conspiracy. It is a bogus CD that has been used to blackmail. This affects not just me but all those who could be blackmailed similarly. We have started the legal battle."

When the videotape surfaced in the media, Jarkiholi had claimed then also that the tape is a fake and someone is trying to blackmail. He even said that he will quit politics if the video is proved legit. After much pressure, he submitted his resignation as the Water Resources Minister and said that he is doing it on "moral grounds". The complaint was filed just three days after the state government made a Special Investigation Team investigate the matter.
