Karnataka Schools Closed For Three Days As Hijab Protests Intensify

Udupi hijab row has not yet resolved as the drift between students and administration is not coming to an end. The students have been protesting as the authorities not allowed them to enter the institute wearing Hijab.

Karnataka schools closed for the next 3 days, the state Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai  tweeted on February 8, 2022. The decision was taken in the view of the Udupi Hijab Row as the court will be hearing petitions regarding the case.

Udupi hijab row has not yet resolved as the drift between students and administration is not coming to an end. The students have been protesting as the authorities not allowed them to enter the institute wearing Hijab. The students were later allowed to enter the campus on the condition that they will sit separately. Now, the government of Karnataka has closed all schools and colleges in the state for next three days for the sake of 'peace and harmony'.

Karnataka schools closed for the next 3 days as Karnataka's Chief Minister, Basavaraj S Bommai, took to his Twitter to make the announcement. He tweeted, "I appeal to all the students, teachers and management of schools and colleges as well as people of Karnataka to maintain peace and harmony. I have ordered closure of all high schools and colleges for next three days. All concerned are requested to cooperate."

The government's decision comes in the view of Karnataka High Court hearing that will be held on February 8. The court will be hearing student's petitions regarding the Udupi Hijab Row and the authorities are aiming to avoid any hindrance to the peace of the state.

Protests broke out in the district of Karnataka when some students of Karnataka's government colleges were not allowed to enter classes wearing hijab. The no-hijab-in-class 'rule' influenced many other schools and colleges to ban the Islamic head scarf in classes which resulted in student's protests. Later on, the authorities allowed them to enter classes but on the condition that they will sit in a separate room. The students upset with authorities decision filed petition in High Court which will be heard on February 8.
