Karnataka Man Sets Woman Ablaze: A 25-year-old man on Monday night allegedly set a woman ablaze outside her house in Karnataka. He was reportedly furious over her rejecting his advances. The incident occurred in the Yadgir district’s Shorapur taluk. The woman succumbed to her burn wounds later at the Kalaburagi Hospital on Tuesday, as per reports.
According to the police, the accused man named Gangappa had been allegedly stalking the woman who was 23 years of age even after she got married. In a fit of rage, he set her ablaze and fled, then later turned himself in. The crime took place in the Chaudeshwari Village in the Shorapur taluk of Yadgir district. The place is 500 km from Bengaluru.
The deceased woman worked as a daily wage labourer along with her husband. The police stated that the accused, Gangappa came to her residence late at night on Monday and she had stepped out to go to the bathroom. On resisting his advances, he allegedly tried to sexually assault her and finally set her ablaze in a fit of rage.
The accused allegedly took petrol from a bike parked nearby, set her on fire with it, pushed her into the bathroom and locked her from outside. Hearing her cries for help, her husband ran outside to the bathroom and rushed her to the taluk hospital. She was later shifted to a government hospital in Kalaburagi, which is around 108 km from Shorapur taluk, where she later passed away the next morning.
Police said that the woman was able to identify Gangappa in her dying declaration. He has now been arrested and will be charged with murder. The woman's family, who kept her body, broke out in protest outside the hospital and the police reportedly had to make an appearance at the scene and pacify them.
