Ex DIG Prisons and IPS D Roopa, is facing a 20-crore defamation suit by her former senior according to reports.
Roopa made the headlines when she exposed alleged bias at the central jail in Bengaluru pertaining to the VIP treatment of AIADMK chief Sasikala. She revealed that Sasikala was enjoying VIP facilities inside a Bengaluru jail. Not only her efforts in maintaining jail decorum, but also the standard performance at work for over a decade and a half garnered her honours. She has been bestowed with President’s Medal in September for her courageous work, the TOI reported.
In her term of 17 years of work, Roopa has been transferred every year.
As per Times Now, HN Sathyanarayana Rao, retired Director General of Police and her former boss, has hit back on her by filing a defamation case of Rs 20 crore. Rao had earlier demanded an unconditional apology from Roopa for making what he called "baseless allegations". Rao said he felt humiliated by the claim and questioned the "wild and baseless" allegations. Further, he said that the incident caused severe damage to his name and position including mental imbalance.
In July, IPS Divakar Roopa Moudgil as the Deputy Inspector General of Police in the prisons department, had alleged, "There were rumours that 2 crores was paid for this (Sasikala's privileges) and unfortunately the allegation is against you (senior HNS Rao)," in the report she handed to her boss.
