Bride marries wedding guest: In a bizarre incident that occurred in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, a bride got hitched to a guest at her wedding after the groom went missing before rituals were complete. Post the jaimala ceremony, in which the couple exchanges garlands, the groom reportedly fled the venue.
Both families searched for him but he was nowhere to be found. Following this last-minute rejection, a potential groom was selected from the baraat (wedding guests) and, with the consent of all parties involved as per Times Now, the wedding eventually took place.
Neither the family of the bride nor the runaway groom has taken the event lightly, it seems, since police authorities have been looped in.
"We have received a complaint in this regard from both the bride and groom sides," news agency IANS quoted Narwal police authorities saying. "While the bride's side has sought suitable action against the groom and his family members, the groom's father, Dharampal, in his complaint, has sought police help to trace his missing son." Investigations in the case are on.
Bride Marries Wedding Guest And Other Unusual Marriage Ceremonies
Though perhaps first of its own kind, this wedding is just one in a series of many unusual marriages India has seen. Only earlier this year in May, a bride walked out on her groom in Uttar Pradesh after he couldn't recite the mathematical table of two. Netizens had found the incident both strange and amusing, with the story going viral on social media.
Similar instances of the bride and groom warring for extraordinary reasons were recalled, such as this one from 2017, where a woman reportedly called off her wedding at the last minute after her soon-to-be husband's naagin dance caused much embarrassment. She married someone else the next day.
Another unidentified photo of a groom sitting at the computer desk on the wedding night as his new wife sat on the bed behind, decked and waiting, recently went viral on the internet, causing a laugh riot. See here.
