Kangana Ranaut moved Bombay HC against the criminal defamation case proceedings directed by the Metropolitan Magistrate at Andheri, Mumbai. The case against Ranaut was filed by Javed Akhtar.
Ranaut had earlier received a bail order from the Andheri court in March after she had challenged the available warrant issued against her in the case. The warrant had been issued after Ranaut failed to appear in court for the case's hearing.
The Magistrate had said, “For willful absence of accused (Ranaut) without any justified reasons, despite service of summons, issue bailable warrant of ₹1,000 against accused Kangana Ranaut.”
In June this year, Ranaut on Friday had asked for a permanent exemption from personal appearance before the Andheri magistrate court during the hearing of the criminal defamation. The court. Even though Akhtar's lawyer objected to the petition, the Mumbai court had accepted the plea considering the situation of the pandemic.
Javed Akhtar Vs Kangana Ranaut Case:
Last year on November 3, the poet and lyricist Javed Akhtar had filed a criminal complaint against Kangana Ranaut for allegedly tampering with his image. He had alleged that Ranaut made defamatory remarks against him on national television and social media in connection with actor Sushant Singh Rajput's death. His complaint was registered under sections 499 and 500 of the Indian Penal Code.
Akhtar’s lawyer, while arguing about the alleged damage done to his Akhtar, had told the Mumbai court, “The complainant is one of the most senior artists in the film industry with his successful career spanning over more than 55 years, which in itself is a rare achievement. Apart from this, he was also nominated as a member of Rajya Sabha during the period March 2010 to March 2016.”
