Actress Shabana Azmi recently spoke about going back to shoot, life in the lockdown, the pandemic, the economic crisis and the current storm that Bollywood is facing and reacted to Kangana Ranaut comments about the Hindi film industry. She said that Ranaut is afraid of oblivion, that she fears the day her name disappears from the news.
Azmi, while talking to Mumbai Mirror, said that Ranaut should do what she's best at, that is acting.
She should do what she's best at: Azmi
"Kangana has started believing in her own myth. She says she taught feminism to the film industry, she taught it nationalism. I’m glad she spelled that out because nobody else had noticed! I think she fears the day when she will no longer be in the headlines and so has to keep making outrageous statements to stay in the news. Poor girl, why doesn’t she just do what she is best at, which is acting," Azmi further said.

In the past, Ranaut has been quoted calling Azmi an ‘anti-national’. Moreover, she had levelled allegations against Azmi's husband, Javed Akhtar. Ranaut's sister Rangoli Chandel had alleged that Akhtar had called the actress home and threatened and asked her to apologise to actor Hrithik Roshan.
It's a systematic campaign to divert attention from real issues: Azmi
Speaking about the film industry, Azmi further said in the aforementioned interview that the 'Hindi film industry is a sitting duck', and it becomes easier for accusations and rumours to hit the news. She further added that all of what is making rounds in the media is a "systematic campaign to divert attention from real issues" prevalent in India.

Azmi, whose film Mee Raqsam is on its way to the Coalition of South Asian Film Festivals feels that the "goal post" of focus in the news is never constant. Talking about the SSR case she said "The AIIMS report clearly states it was not murder. So ‘Justice for Sushant’ has given way to ‘Weed out the Druggies’, the goal post keeps changing. Instead of focusing on mental health as a serious issue in our society, it’s sensationalism that’s at play."
Azmi's latest project, ">Netflix's 'Kaali Khuhi' teaser was released yesterday. The movie addresses the issue of female infanticide. It is set in a village in Punjab. Incidentally, Ranaut, also recently resumed work after seven months and shared some behind-the-scenes pictures from the set of her upcoming film Thalaivi on social media.
