#Justiceforlavanya Twitter trend took over India as a call for justice for a class 12 girl from Tamil Nadu who died by suicide on January 19, 2022. The death of the 17-year-old student sparked outrage in the state which spread to social media.

On January 19, Lavanya, a student of Ariyalur Pure Heart High School died by suicide. She reportedly drank poison on January 9 which was the cause of her death. She was allegedly being tortured to convert her religion to Christianity. The trend was reportedly started by Tamil Nadu BJP as a movement.

#Justiceforlavanya Twitter Trend: What Initiated The Trend?

Lavanya was allegedly tortured and abused by her school warden who forced her to convert to Christianity. The abuse and torture compelled her to drink poison. The video of the student also went viral in which she narrated about how she was asked by the school to convert to Christianity in the presence of her parents. When they both refused, the school wardens scolded and abused her by making her clean her the hostel rooms.

The school warden was arrested and case was filed against her under the Juvenile Act. The relatives of the student protested in front of Thirukattupalli police station and demanded legal and appropriate actions against the school authorities. To bring the case in the eyes of global light and to demand justice for the 17-year-old, #justiceforlavanya Twitter trend took over India.
