Julia Roberts Dr Fauci: Actor Julia Roberts presented Dr Anthony Fauci with The Foundation for AIDS Research’s (AMFAR) Award of Courage for 2021.
Roberts had mentioned that her family was inspired by Fauci’s work with the COVID-19 and HIV viruses.
During the virtual presentation of the AMFAR’s fundraiser A Gala for Our Time, Roberts stated that “Your calm and your reassurance have been something that left an indelible mark on me and my family. To see you always pound the ship, no matter what the circumstances were. To me, that’s true courage.” Roberts had taken home the Award of Courage in 2017. In a conversation with Dr Fauci for the “Pass the Mic” series, Roberts had stated that as a parent she appreciated Fauci’s work.
Physician and immunologist Dr Fauci said “Receiving awards like this is so wonderful and it’s always nice to get recognition. Many of the unsung heroes out there, I want to make sure that we tip our hats to them, particularly the healthcare workers who very bravely every day put their lives and their safety on the line to take are of terribly ill people. So we’re all really part of a team. I might be a bit more visible than they are but what they do is equally as important as anything that I do.”
Actor and producer Glenn Close was also presented by the second Award of Courage by co-star and friend Bette Midler.
