Juhi Chawla Signs Rs 1 Lakh Surety For Aryan Khan's Bail In Drugs Case

Juhi Chawla Aryan Khan case: Bollywood actor Juhi Chawla, who is a longtime friend, co-star and business associate of Shah Rukh Khan, appeared in court in Mumbai on Friday evening to sign the surety of one lakh rupees for his son Aryan, who yesterday got bail in a drugs case.

Aryan, and co-accused Arbaaz Merchant and Munmun Dhamecha, are scheduled to walk out of jail after over three weeks of detention. The bail order, made available today, spelt out conditions for the release. Aryan has been asked to surrender his passport and mark his presence at the NCB office every Friday. He cannot maintain contact with either his co-accused or the media.

Chawla completed the bail formalities at a special Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) court.

"Juhi Chawla knows him since birth. Juhi Chawla is signing the bail bonds," Aryan's lawyer Satish Maneshinde said, as reported by Hindustan Times.

Khan and the others were arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on October 3, after officials of the anti-drugs agency busted a drug party on a Mumbai-Goa cruise. Merchant, a friend of Aryan, was found with six grams of charas in his possession, which NCB said amounted to "conscious" possession on part of the latter.

23-year-old Aryan was denied bail twice by a Mumbai court before he filed an appeal in the Bombay High Court, with former Attorney General of India Mukul Rohatgi arguing his case.

As reported earlier, Rohatgi told the court that a drug conspiracy, as alleged by the NCB, could not be proved and that Aryan knew only two persons aboard the cruise party. The NCB had presented certain WhatsApp chats purported to be between Aryan and actor Ananya Panday as evidence. More here.

Chawla's surety will secure court permission to release Aryan from the Arthur Road jail, where he was lodged the past weeks.

Latest reports from Live Law quote jail officials, who claim Aryan might not be released today since bail formalities were not completed in time. As of 6 PM, Chawla is reportedly still signing some documents in court.
