Joss Whedon accused of abusive behaviour on sets: Actor Charisma Carpenter, who played Cordelia Chase on Buffy the Vampire Slayer and its spin-off series Angel, has accused prominent film and television creator Joss Whedon of being abusive to her on the sets of the iconic television shows.

Carpenter on Wednesday alleged in a social media post that Whedon was a serial abuser on the sets of the cult show. She claimed that the abusive behaviour did not stop even while she was pregnant. Carpenter went on to claim that he had a "history of creating toxic and hostile work environments."

Whedon, who faced claims of abusive behaviour on the set of Justice League last year, has drawn criticism again from other female actors who worked with him on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer television series, which ran from 1997 to 2003.

"My Truth," she captioned the post and tweeted a statement alleging that Whedon had "abused his power on numerous occasions" and had called her "fat" to colleagues when she was four months pregnant. She also claimed that he joked about firing her and called her into a meeting during which he allegedly asked if she was "going to keep it", referring to her pregnancy.

Carpenter added that the "disturbing" abuse at hands of Joss Whedon triggered a "chronic physical condition" that she still tries to cope with in isolation and "at times, destructively."

Following the allegations, several of her co-stars, including Sarah Michelle Gellar, Michelle Trachtenberg, and Amber Benson, have extended support to Carpenter.

"While I am proud to have my name associated with Buffy Summers, I don't want to be forever associated with the name Joss Whedon," Gellar, who played the main protagonist on the series, wrote on Instagram.

"I stand with all survivors of abuse and am proud of them for speaking out," said Sarah Michelle Gellar

Trachtenberg, who played Buffy's sister Dawn, thanked Gellar for the support and also alluded to inappropriate behaviour she faced by Whedon.
