A young man tried to murder his girlfriend over a breakup. The man stabbed the woman thrice and dragged her near the pond drowning her to kill her in broad daylight. The incident happened near a pond in Santoshpur, Ajoynagar, Kolkata, on Tuesday.
According to reports, the jilted lover attacked his girlfriend by stabbing her thrice and dragging her to a pond attempting to drown her while bystanders kept watching. The incident could have taken a tragic turn if traffic police sergeant Joyjeet Saha and Purba Jadavpur hadn't intervened in the incident on time.

Lover Attempts To Kill Girlfriend
Saha described how he stopped by from the bike when he saw a crowd surrounding the pond. When the traffic police sergeant asked why a crowd had gathered, he was informed that a man has dragged the woman to the pond and had already stabbed her thrice. The crowd was hesitant to intervene as the man had a knife. The sergeant along with two others dived in the pond to save the woman and stop the quarrel before it would have been too late.
The accused is identified as 24-year-old Jayanta Tati who works in a fish farm. The survivor received several injuries on the neck, abdomen, and hand is admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in Peerless Hospital. Her condition is said to be out of danger but yet serious. A case has been registered in Survey Park police station for charges of attempted murder against Tati and has been arrested.
The accused claimed the victim to be his girlfriend for the past 3 years now. But the girl didn't want to continue the relationship. They met near the pond of Santoshpur as the girl wanted to return the gifts and belongings of Tati when the two engaged in an argument. The argument took a dangerous turn when the accused grew enraged and attempted to murder the woman. The locals described seeing Tati dragging the girl towards the pond and when she resisted he stabbed her thrice, but when the police personnel and others intervened to stop the incident Tati gave in.
