Women’s cricket team member Jhulan Goswami is now the number one bowler as per the ICC ranking that was declared on Thursday. The 33-year-old fast bowler was the captain of the Indian women’s team a couple of years ago.
She scored 730 points on the ICC scoreboard to achieve the feat of being the number one bowler. This is the second time Jhulan has become the top bowler in ICC ranking.
"I am feeling good at reaching the top. But I will be the happiest when the Indian women’s team achieves the number one spot in ICC rankings. My dream will come true if we, as a team, can reach at the top of the ICC ranking,” said Jhulan, as reported by One India.
Many people are discussing if this achievement will put Jhulan in the category of all-time great players in the history of Indian women’s cricket but Jhulan wants to see the entire Indian team at the top ICC rank. India is currently at number five position in the ICC ranking.
Before Jhulan, West Indies player Stephanie Taylor was at the top spot. Stephanie had a total of 659 points, which is 71 points lesser than Jhulan.
Asked about her thoughts on becoming the top bowler, Jhulan said, “I am not thinking about it at the moment. Rather, I am trying to focus on the forthcoming series against West Indies and then Asia Cup,” said Jhulan.
“West Indies is a tough side. But it will help us gaining the required experience and temperament before we play in Asia Cup,” said Jhulan. She said that this achievement would not have been possible without her coaches, family members and teammates.
