Jharkhand man marries two women at the same time in a single ceremony in Lohardaga. The groom, Sandeep Oraon got married to both Kusum Lakra and Swati Kumari.
The groom Sandeep Oraon and one of the brides Kusum Lakra were in a live-in relationship for three years. The couple had a child together. A year prior to the double wedding, Oraon went to West Bengal to work in a brick kiln.

Oraon met his to-be bride Swati Kumari in West Bengal as she had also travelled to work there. After the two returned home, they continued to meet. Their family members and villagers found out about Oraon and Kumari’s relationship and opposed it.
The situation escalated to a series of brawls and eventually, the villagers called a panchayat. It was decided that Oraon should marry both of the women, and neither of the women nor their families objected to the suggestion.
Sandeep Oraon spoke to India Today and said that “There may be a legal issue with marrying two women together, but I love both of them and I cannot leave either of them”.
In a similar case, last year, a man in the Chhattisgarh village of Bastar got married to two women. The groom, Chandu Maurya got married to Haseena Baghel and Sundari Kashyap at the same mandap in Tikara Lohnga village.
Maurya said that “I used to like both of them and they also liked me. We married consensually in front of all the villagers.” He added that the family members of Sundari Kashyap, one of his brides, did not attend the wedding function.
Maurya spoke to a media house about how the three of them got married. “Both Haseena and Sundari came to know about each other and agreed to have a relationship with me. We were in touch over the phone but one-day Haseena landed at my home to live with me. When Sundari came to know that Haseena is here, she also came to me. And since then, we started living in the same house like a family.”
