The 25-year-old daughter of Bill Gates and Melinda Gates, Jennifer Gates said that her family has been going through "a challenging stretch of time" after the shocking announcement of her parents' divorce on Monday.
Gates wrote on her Instagram story that she is still learning how to best support her own process and emotions along with her family members at this time and is grateful for the space to do so.
She also said that she won't further personally comment on the separation but said that people's kind words mean a lot to her.
In her next story, Gates posted a screenshot of the original tweet that her parents posted on Twitter announcing their separation.
She is the eldest of the couple's three children and has a brother, Rory, 22 and a 19-year-old sister Phoebe.
The three siblings grew up in Seattle and got their school education from the private Lakeside High School, their father's alma mater.
She graduated in 2018 from Stanford University with a degree in Human Biology. Gates took a year off after college to focus on her equestrian career and then went to Mount Sinai's Icahn School of Medicine in New York.
Her billionaire philanthropist parents reportedly shelled out $37 million on a string of properties in horseriding hotspot Wellington, Florida, to support her equestrian passion.
Gates competed against many other celebrity kids like Steve Jobs' daughter Eve Jobs, Bruce Springsteen’s daughter Jessica Springsteen, and Michael Bloomberg’s daughter Georgina Bloomberg.
Jennifer Gates announced in January this year that she was engaged to a renowned Egyptian equestrian Nayel Nassar who is also a Stanford University graduate.
At the time of her engagement announcement, Gates wrote on her Instagram that she cannot wait to spend the rest of their lives together growing, loving, laughing, and learning.
Jennifer Gates spends most of her time either studying medicine or jet-setting around the world.
