This development comes just days after TMC chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee wrote to opposition party leaders to campaign against the BJP in the 2021 state assembly polls.
According to reports, Bachchan reached Kolkata airport on Sunday evening ahead of her scheduled campaign programme from April 5 to 8. She will reportedly be part of a roadshow on Monday and is also likely to share the stage with Banerjee while in Kolkata.

She was received at the Kolkata Airport by senior TMC leaders Derek O’Brien and Chandrima Bhattacharya and will be felicitated at the TMC Bhavan in Kolkata.
TMC has roped in Bachchan for at least four roadshows, reports claim. As the party begins its campaigning with the popular slogan "Bangla nijer mayekay chaye (Bengal wants only its own daughter)", Bachchan's involvement could establish a connection with women voters, as per the leaders of the party, as Bachchan is a Bengali who hails from Jabalpur.
Bachchan made her film debut at the age of 15 with Satyajit Ray’s Mahanagar, starring Bengali actors Anil Chatterjee and Madhabi Mukherjee. She got her first major break with Bengali filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee's Hindi film Guddi.
The first two phases of the West Bengal polls were held on March 27 and April 1 and the next phase of polling will take place on April 6.
