Javed Akhtar Urges HC to dismiss Kangana plea: Kangana Ranaut had filed a plea in the Bombay High Court to quash the criminal defamation proceedings initiated by noted Lyricist Javed Akhtar. This was on the basis of a complaint filed by him. He has now urged the Bombay High court to dismiss the plea.
Akhtar filed a counter-affidavit in the High Court and said that the metropolitan magistrate's court in suburban Andheri had followed a due process to launch the criminal defamation proceedings against Ranaut, as per sources.
He had filed the counter-affidavit when Ranaut filed a plea challenging the defamation proceedings initiated earlier this year. According to Ranaut, the court didn't independently examine the complainant and was just dependent upon the Juhu police's discretion and initiated the case against her.
The counter-affidavit, on the other hand, stated the magistrate, had gone through his complaint and his statement made on oath, detailing his grievances against Ranaut.
"The MM (metropolitan magistrate) followed due process of law before proceeding to initiate the summoning order against the applicant (Ranaut).
That it was only after considering the footage of the interview dated July 19, 2020, and detailed verification of the statement made by the respondent (Akhtar) and the statement of witnesses that the MM proceeded to issue process against the applicant (Ranaut)," reads Akhtar's affidavit.
He also said that Ranaut was uncooperative while Police's probe was on. As per reports, the high court will hear Ranaut's plea on August 18. Javed Akhtar Urges HC To Dismiss Kangana Plea
