Gal Gadot-starrer ‘Wonder Woman’ is making a buzz even months after its release. On one hand, the fans are rejoicing as a sequel is on the way! But on the other criticism never ends for arguably this first-woman superhero.
The film which garnered appreciation from critics around the globe did not make filmmaker James Cameron happy. He feels no admiration with the DC’s solo woman superhero film. Why?
"All of the self-congratulatory back-patting Hollywood's been doing over Wonder Woman has been so misguided. She’s an objectified icon, and it’s just male Hollywood doing the same old thing! I’m not saying I didn’t like the movie but, to me, it’s a step backwards,” Cameron claimed in an interview with the Guardian.
Being one of the industry’s popular writer-director who gave us strong female protagonists in films like "Titanic", "Avatar" and "The Terminator", he is still unimpressed by the way Gadot’s character is portrayed in the movie, reported The Guardian.
The “step backwards” for the renown filmmaker is a new beginning in the industry for director Patty Jenkins. On Thursday night, she hit back at Cameron in a tweet, exclaiming, “James Cameron’s inability to understand what Wonder Woman is, or stands for, to women all-over the world is unsurprising as, though, he is a great filmmaker, he is not a woman.”

"Sarah Connor (played by Linda Hamilton in The Terminator) was not a beauty icon. She was strong, she was troubled, she was a terrible mother, and she earned the respect of the audience through pure grit. And to me, (the benefit of characters like Sarah) is so obvious. I mean, half the audience is female," said Cameron.

Further, Cameron, who is currently busy with "Avatar" sequels, tried pacifying that his featured role of Sarah Connor was a true symbol of women power and 'Wonder Woman' is just overrated.
His negative 'Wonder Woman' comments, set social media ablaze with mixed criticism.

I think Mr. James Cameron should take a step backwards! In the hands of @PattyJenks & @galgadot, #WonderWoman was anything but objectified! https://t.co/ntlDw7Ntpa

Criticism is never effective when it's followed immediately with "But you know who did it better? ME!!" Back to Pandora, Mr. Cameron! https://t.co/E3lZsPBX94

Furthermore, the Patty Jenkins-directed movie in which Gal Gadot, is essaying the lead role, is bolder than Batman, Superman or The Joker ever had. Also, it is not only making waves in the typical male-dominated genre, but has become DC Comics’ most successful film ever.
