Jacinda Ardern Sworn In For Second Term As New Zealand Prime Minister

Re-elected for a second term, Jacinda Ardern was sworn in as the Prime Minister of New Zealand on Friday. " I would say simply that sitting at this table is Aotearoa New Zealand," said Ardern, referring to her cabinet which is being praised for its diversity on basis of gender and ethnicity.

"They collectively represent a range of different perspectives, huge talent, enormous experience and, as you would expect in any time of crisis, a huge commitment to serving this country," the 40-year-old leader said, as reported by NDTV.

Jacinda Ardern and her cabinet reportedly took oaths in English and Maori in a ceremony that was held at Wellington's Government House. Last month, Ardern, who is New Zealand's youngest Prime Minister, secured a second term in the office with a landslide victory. She has received praise worldwide praise for her handling of COVID-19 pandemic in the country, plus a major terrorist attack and a volcanic eruption, all in her first term.

“Tonight, New Zealand has shown the Labour Party its greatest support in at least 50 years," Ardern said after winning the re-election, adding, “And I can promise you: we will be a party that governs for every New Zealander."

As per the final results of the election that were declared on Friday, Jacinda Ardern had secured 50 percent of the vote, collecting 65 seats in the parliament, out of 120. The main opposition party only managed to secure 33 seats on the other hand.
