Ivanka Trump, daughter of outgoing US President Donald Trump, has expressed disappointment over comments made by her sister-in-law Karlie Kloss after the violent Capitol Hill siege. Kloss, who is related to the Trump family through her husband Joshua Kushner, the brother of Ivanka Trump's husband Jared Kushner, took to Twitter to condemn the Capitol siege of January 6 led by pro-Trump mobs. She said refusing to accept the results of a democratic election was "anti-American." When a user charged her for her association with the Trumps, the model said she has "tried" to talk to them about accepting the results.

A source told Page Six, in light of these events, that 39-year-old Trump was "surprised and hurt" by Kloss' statements. Kloss' claim that she "tried" to talk politics has been refuted as "simply not true." The source, who is apparently a family friend, told the publication, "The tweet was brought to Ivanka’s attention and she was mostly surprised because they’re so close... Karlie is public with her politics, but privately shies away from discussing them. But they are very close and they really enjoy each other’s company, so Ivanka is hurt."

Karlie Kloss Refutes Claims

The 28-year-old model is a Democrat and is known to have campaigned for Hillary Clinton and Joe Biden's presidencies in 2016 and 2020 respectively. But she has maintained that having opinions diverse from her family's isn't something uncommon. In an interview with Andy Cohen, she was quoted saying, "Andy, I’m sure I’m not the only person in this country who does not necessarily agree with their family on politics."

After Kloss' Capitol tweet, some social media users defended her saying exactly this. One wrote, "Y’all don’t bring up her relation to the K*shners. She’s her own person and has her OWN views!!!! You stand up for what’s right, sunshine."

Kloss' team has reportedly also said that Trump's claims that the two have never discussed politics is wrong. "Ivanka understands Karlie’s views perfectly. They’ve had many political discussions contrary to what she and her team would have you believe," a source said.

After pro-Trump mobs laid claim to Capitol Hill in a bid to disrupt the certification of the Biden-Harris administration, the event was bemoaned the world over. Global leaders issued strong statements condemning the violence. Read how celebrities reacted to the incident.

Former President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama criticised the attack on social media too. The latter wrote, "Like all of you, I watched as a gang—organized, violent, and mad they’d lost an election—laid siege to the United States Capitol. They set up gallows. They proudly waved the traitorous flag of the Confederacy through the halls… The day was a fulfillment of the wishes of an infantile and unpatriotic president who can’t handle the truth of his own failures."
