Groped By Technician Installing Water Purifier: Techie Narrates Horror

A 30-year-old woman who is an IT Techie living in Bengaluru was sexually assaulted by a man who came to reinstall a water purifier. The man groped her after learning that she lives alone.

A 30-year-old woman who is an IT techie living in Begur of south-east Bengaluru was sexually assaulted by a man who came to reinstall a water purifier. The incident happened on May 5 when the technician arrived at her door and groped her after some time realising that the woman was alone in the house. However, on Wednesday, the police apprehended the technician and booked him for sexual harassment.

As per the reports, the woman had raised a service request on May 4 at the manufacturer of the water purifier. However, no technician arrived on that day. The next day, the day of the incident, she raised another complaint. Following this, a technician showed up at her door around 5 pm and she let him in.

What happened on the day of the incident?

After about 15 minutes, the technician asked the woman to turn off the main switch so that he could reinstall the water purifier. The woman did as he said and went into the kitchen to do her chores. After some time, the technician came from behind and started touching her inappropriately and groping her.

The woman pushed him away and locked herself in the kitchen. Helplessly seeking hope to save herself from the technician who waiting outside for her to open the kitchen door, she found her mobile phone. She immediately called her friend who lived nearby and narrated the entire incident. 

The friend arrived at the house as soon as possible and found the technician outside the kitchen window. He started attacking the friend too. However, she picked up a stick and hit him and the technician started bleeding in the scuffle. The technician was cornered and after realising this, he fled the spot leaving behind the equipment he brought to reinstall the water purifier. 

The woman filed a complaint and the police went into action

The survivor immediately filed a complaint with the Begur police station. The police acquired the details of the technician from the company and called on his number. 

The police then reached the house of the technician and inquired about him with his family members. However, the family members said that he hadn't arrived after his duty and asked the police to file a missing complaint. But the police informed them that he had sexually harassed a woman and refused to file a missing complaint. 

Finally, on May 8, Wednesday, the police found the technician and apprehended him for questioning. The police booked him under Section 354A (sexual harassment), and further investigation is underway.
