It is a proud moment for India as the world ranking of International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup 2019 has awarded the top three ranks to Indian woman shooters in Women’s 10m Air Rifle event. The ISSF World Cup 2019 was held in Munich after the recent conclusion of ISSF 2019 in China. Apurvi Chandela has bagged the position of World’s number one in women’s 10m Air rifle shooter, followed by Anjum Moudgil and Elavenil Valarivan. Besides, Apurvi and Anjum have already secured two Olympic quotas for Tokyo 2020. The ranking is evidence of women’s contribution in making India proud and elevating its global status.

Ace shooter Apurvi Chandela won her second gold medal in 10m Air Rifle in ISSF world cup 2019 and became world’s number one Women’s 10m Air Rifle shooter. She is the first Indian woman since Anjali Bhagwat in 2002 to become the world's number one in women's 10M Air Rifle. In the recently concluded ISSF world cup in Beijing, China (April 21-29), Chandela had missed out on a medal after scoring 207.8. But the current season of ISSF at Munich has more than compensated for her small loss. Born in Jaipur, Chandela already has a National Championship medal, a World Cup medal and Commonwealth gold honoured for her excellence in the shooting.

Anjum Moudgil

Anjum Moudgil bagged her second gold at the Sardar Sajjan Singh Sethi Memorial Masters shooting competition. She won her first gold in 10m Air Rifle at ISSF world cup and secured the second post in the world’s woman 10m Air Rifle shooters.  Though both Anjum and Apurvi secured the Olympics 2020 quota, Anjum is the first Indian woman to claim it. Besides, Chandigarh born Anjum has won silver in women’s 50m rifle event the 21st Commonwealth Games at Gold Coast last year.

Elavenil Valarivan

Elavenil Valarivan has become the third Indian woman to win gold in 10m Air Rifle event at senior ISSF World Cup. 20-Year-old English Literature student from Tamil Nadu bagged her gold medal with the score 251.7. She has also won gold medals at ISSF Junior World Cup in Sydney and Suhl 2018. However, unlike Anjum and Chandela, she could not secure a quota in Olympics 2020.

With the gold medallists Anjum, Apurvi and Elavenil, India has won three out of four World Cup gold medals in the women’s 10m Air Rifle this year. The three woman marvels have not only won the hearts of their own country people but have also established themselves strongly at the world level. India is proud of these women who have created history and surely there is more to be expected.
