What Role Will Isha Ambani Be Appointed For At Reliance After Mukesh Ambani's Exit?

Isha Ambani is to be appointed as the Chairperson of the Reliance conglomerate’s retail unit following the resignation of her father Mukesh Ambani on June 27. Mukesh Ambani was the chairman and director of Reliance Industries and following his resignation his children received promotions. He had mentioned that Reliance was "in the process of effecting a momentous leadership transition" in 2021.

Isha Ambani to be Chairperson of Reliance's retail unit Reliance Retail and her twin brother Akash Ambani has already been appointed as the chairman of the Board of Directors of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd on June 28.

The 30-year-old Isha Ambani is an alumnus of Yale University and pursued graduation in South Asian studies and psychology. She later attended Stanford Graduate School of Business for higher studies. Isha Ambani is currently a director on the boards of Jio and Reliance and she is the current director of Reliance Retail Ventures Ltd.

Both Akash and Isha Ambani were a part of the teams that negotiated Meta Platforms Inc, formerly known as Facebook’s investment in the group. Meta Platforms invested 5.7 billion dollars in Jio platforms. Their younger brother Anant, 27, is a Board of Director for renewable energy and oil and chemical units of Reliance.

Before joining Reliance, Ambani was employed with McKinsey and Co in the United States. It is a global management consulting firm that offers services to corporations, governments, and other organisations.

Isha Ambani To Be Chairperson of Reliance Retail

Ambani joined Reliance in 2014 as a director and was involved in the processes of Reliance Jio. Reliance's e-commerce ventures such as Ajio, JioMart, Reliance Fresh, Reliance Trends, and Reliance Smart come under Ambani's jurisdiction. She is also involved in the processes of Reliance Foundation, the Reliance Group's nonprofit organisation. Ambani helped teachers in rural areas get access to digital aids for teaching through the Reliance Foundation, as per reports.

The board also named KV Chowdhary and Raminder Singh Gujrat as directors for a period of five years. Pankaj Mohan Pawar was named as Managing Director for five years.

Reliance Jio and Reliance Retail are both subsidiaries of the Ambani family’s oil-to-telecom conglomerate. Reliance Industries Ltd is the flagship firm of the conglomerate.
